Season 36 wrap up

This won't be as good as mainou's write-ups; he did a great job, but I did want to get something on here.

jverrier85 and his New Britain team won the AL and World Series over poboy's Mexico City team.
New Britian not only swept the series, but the entire post season. That has not happened before, marking this team as certainly the most dominating of all time for the post season. Who woulda thunk it after all of those great Santa Fe teams.

This was jverrier85's first world championship.

Also of note, ray2kool's Washington D.C. team won the Leather Hootenanny, his first as well.

Season 35 Wrap Up

Season 35 in Gehrig will go down as a season of first. In the AL, the No. 2 seeded New Britain Hard Hitters (98-64) won the franchise's first playoff series and knocked out the powerhouse Santa Fe Tigers (100-62) to win the AL pennant. In the Old Circuit, the No. 2 seeded Florida Spring Breakers (103-59) won the pennant for the third time in the last five seasons, but for the first time in franchise history, they came out as the ultimate victors.

New Britain reached the World Series by sweeping the Pittsburgh Pushovers (88-74) in the ALDS and then defeating the Tigers in 7 games after having been down 0-2 and 2-3 in the ALCS. Florida reached the Series by defeating Mexico City La Raza (88-74) in four games in the NLDS before taking down Washington D.C. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (95-67) in six games in the NLCS.

In the World Series, the Spring Breakers got off to a fast start and never looked back. After easily winning the first two games by outscoring New Britain by a combined 16-4, they dropped a one-run Game 3. Florida removed any doubt that they meant business by scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning of Game 4, which they ultimately won, before running away with Game 5 by 10-3. Overall, Florida outscored New Britain 34-13. The Spring Breakers also got an amazing showing from top starting pitcher Eric Hairston, who ended the playoffs with 4 Wins in 6 starts and an impressive 1.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.

Congratulations to the Florida Spring Breakers and antidrew on a great Championship run.

Notes:

This marks antidrew's first Hardball Dynasty World Series title.

This is the first time since season's 22-23 (both wins by the Fresno Mendozas) that the NL has won consecutive World Series titles.

Florida has made the playoffs in 5 of the last 6 seasons, and made the World Series in 3 of the last 5 seasons. The World Series runs were made by Florida teams that won 100+ games.

Mainou, we hardly knew you

After 35 seasons, Gehrig World says a reluctant goodbye and good luck to owner mainou. An original owner as well as a charter member of the Vets Committee, mainou has been an extremely valued member of our small community. He has helped to nurture new owners, provide counsel, prop up the AL West, and curate the blog.

Long a mainstay in the arid desert of the American southwest, he won 6 division titles and over 2750 ball games, including a season high 104 wins in season 22..

I only know mainou through this website, and can only speculate as to his true form, but I feel very sure that he is a fine, upstanding human being. He has shown more compassion and empathy in HBD than any other owner I have dealt with.

He will be missed.

Season 34 Wrap-Up

After another amazing regular season by the Santa Fe Tigers (122-40), it sure looked like the Tigers were poised for their fifth title in a row. And things looked good for the Tigers until they ran into the San Diego Magic (111-51), who took down the Tigers for their second title over the last six seasons.

The Magic rolled into the World Series, their third over the last six seasons, as the National League top seed. After sweeping the fourth-seeded Burlington Tree Huggers (84-78) in the NLDS they easily dispatched the sixth-seeded Florida Spring Breakers (98-64) in five games in the NLCS.

Despite having won a franchise-best 122 games during the regular season, the Tigers struggled mightily in the playoffs. The fifth-seeded Atlanta Swabbies (94-68) took the Tigers to the maximum five games in the ALDS, with the deciding Game 5 coming down to a game-winning base hit by Kenshin Suzuki in the bottom half of the tenth inning. The Tigers were then able to easily defeat the second seeded Scranton Buccos (93-69) in five games in the ALCS to claim their fifth straight AL pennant and their seventh AL crown over the last eleven seasons.

In the World Series, the Magic got off to a fast start, winning Game 1 with a masterful 4-hit effort by Billy Torres, followed by a dramatic Game 2 win thanks to a 3-run home run in the top half of the ninth inning by Calvin Daley, and a 10-3 Game 3 shellacking where Daley again contributed big by driving in four runs. The Tigers pushed back , winning Games 4 and 5 and getting off to a 4-0 lead in Game 6 before it all came crashing down in the top half of the 8th inning. The Magic tied the game with a 4-runing 8th inning and then finished off the Tigers with a dramatic 3-run home run by Marc Bennett in the top half of the 11th inning. With that San Diego clinched their second World Series title in Gehrig.

Congratulations to the San Diego Magic and thedream42 on a great Championship run.

Notes:

Santa Fe and San Diego have won the last six World Series titles.

San Diego has a 2-1 record in the World Series.

The Magic have now 7 consecutive 100+ win seasons.

Santa Fe have a 6-1 record in the World Series

Santa Fe has now had 12 consecutive 100+ win seasons, dating back to season 23, and has won 6 titles during this time span.
