Gehrig World info

Public for 25 seasons, we have recently converted to private. Gehrig has been an outstanding public world.

There is just one rule:  Win at least 120 games over 2 consecutive seasons.

This is an effort to curtail 'tanking'. There is only this one rule in order to keep things simple and attractive to new owners. While public, Gehrig World was a welcome and friendly place for those new to HBD and I intend to make sure it remains that way.

Season 26 Wrapup

In dramatic fashion for the second season in a row, the Kansas City Betelnuts (96-66) are the Gehrig World Series champions. In a season where just about everyone expected the top seeds in both leagues (AL - Santa Fe Tigers 113-49 and the NL Fresno Mendozas 114-48) neither team made it even to the League Championship Series. Instead, the number three seeded Betelnuts, managed by cpkung, went 10-2 in the AL side of the playoffs to reach the World Series. The NL representative, the number two seeded St. Louis Jalowitzians (98-64), managed by franco8305, reached their first World Series in franchise history by only dropping one game in their two series on the NL side of the playoffs.

After splitting the first two games of the Series in St. Louis, the Betelnuts took a commanding 3-1 Series lead with back-to-back wins at home. Alas, St. Louis kept fighting and took the Series to a deciding Game 7 at home. In the deciding Game 7, The Jalowitzians went up 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning behind a Fritz Hyzdu Grand Slam. The Betelnuts started chipping away at the Jalowitzians lead in the top of the sixth inning and by the time the top of ninth inning was over the Betelnuts had a 9-6 lead that they would hold on to claim their second championship in a row.

Congratulations to cpkung on his fourth Gehrig World Series championship!

Notes:

As noted earlier cpkung now has two back-to-back title runs in Gehrig.

This was cpkung's fourth World Series championship in Gehrig and in Hardball Dynasty.

The Kansas City Betelnuts franchise is 4-0 in the World Series.

Season 25 Wrap-Up

In dramatic fashion, the Kansas City Betelnuts are the Gehrig World Series champions. The Betelnuts, managed by cpkung, went into the playoffs as the AL second seed needing the maximum number of games to win every one of their three playoff series.

The Betelnuts defeated the Fargo Wood Chippers in a close ALDS that was decided in a one-run game five before taking aim on the defending champions Santa Fe Tigers, a team that was coming off a 119-win regular season campaign that saw them tie the all time record for wins in Gehrig, in the ALCS. Despite the Tigers amazing talent and despite horrid pitching from Rodrigo Tavarez, who was shelled on both Game 1 and Game 7, the Betelnuts just never gave up and pulled out a win in Game 7 to represent the AL in the World Series.

Their opponent in the World Series, representing the NL for the eight consecutive season the Fresno Mendozas. The Betelnuts and Mendozas should've known this would be an interesting World Series when the Betelnuts won the first two games in Fresno, followed by the Mendozas returning the favor and winning three in a row in Kansas City. Despite needing just one more win to claim their third World Series in Gehrig, the Betelnuts jumped off to a 7-0 lead in Game 6. In the deciding Game 7, the Mendozas got a run on the bottom of the first inning. The score stayed at 1-0 until the top of the 9th inning when the Betelnuts finally got on the board before unleashing four runs in the top of the 10th inning (three of which came with two-out). The Mendozas countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but with the tying run on first base, the Mendozas grounded into a 4-6-3 double-play that sealed the win for the Betelnuts.

Congratulations to cpkung on his third Gehrig World Series championship!

This was the eigth World Series trip in a row for the Mendozas, and third for cpkung

Season 24 Wrap-Up

You could say the Santa Fe Tigers have finished the turnaround of a moribund franchise with a resounding splash. The Tigers, who at one point amassed six straight seasons with 100+ losses, built what appears to be a dynasty around very good drafting. Despite all the losing early on, general manager kevinbigham stuck to his master plan that culminated with a championship after only eight seasons at the helm.

Lost in the Tigers championship story are an unprecedented seventh straight World Series showing for the Fresno Mendozas. The Mendozas' general manager cwiddoes refuses the claim that he has built a dynasty. However, taking a team to seven straight World Series is no easy feat, and despite having a 2-5 record in the championship series, it is an accomplishment to be celebrated.

The Tigers got to the World Series after an impressive 105-win season that saw them claim the top seed in the AL. They dispatched AL South rivals Charlotte Driskills in three straight while scoring an impressive 36 runs over those three games. The Tigers then clinched the AL pennant by defeating a Fargo Wood Chippers squad that won 102 games in five games, before defeating the Mendozas in six. Even more impressive, the Tigers were able to win high-scoring and low-scoring games just the same.

Congratulations to kevinbigham on his first Gehrig World Series championship!

Notes:

This was the seventh World Series trip in a row for the Mendozas, and first for both the Tigers and kevinbigham.

This was the first World Series championship for the Santa Fe franchise.

This marked kevinbigham's first championship in Hardball Dynasty.

With the Tigers winning the championship, every franchise in the AL South has at least won one World Series title in Gehrig.

Season 23 Wrap-up

The Fresno Mendozas are officially in ownership mode of the Gehrig world. Making their sixth straight World Series showing as representatives of the National League, the Mendozas went the distance to repeat as World Series Champions.

To repeat as World Series champions, they had to defeat a very good a Fargo Wood Chippers squad that had amassed 119 wins during the regular season. The 119 regular season wins tied a Gehrig record for most wins in a regular season set by the Charlote Driskills in season 22. Oddly enough, the Mendoza's also defeated the Driskills on that season to capture the Word Series hardware, with both Series going to a Game 7 to decide the winner. Reginald Wolf collected two wins during the World Series, and had a solid Game 7 to clinch the Series for the Mendozas.

For the Wood Chippers, this marks a sour end to what had been a very sweet season. After winning 119 wins the hopes were set on running the table. Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Congratulations to cwiddoes on his second Gehrig World Series championship, and third overall title.

Notes:

This was the sixth World Series trip in a row for the Mendozas, and first for the Wood Chippers since foolsgold79 took over the franchise.

The Mendozas also are the third team in Gehrig to repeat as World Series champions.

This is the second title for the NL West, leaving the AL West as the only division without a World Series win.
